Personal Background

Joselyn was born and raised in Massachusetts, and currently lives in the Bronx. She’s always had a love for animals growing up, starting when she first did volunteer work at an equine stable, and only grew from there when her family adopted their first puppy together.

When she got older she rescued her first pittie mix puppy, Alisha. Growing up together, we overcame many challenges and have come a long way since, dedicating lots of time and hard work. Alisha has made Joselyn the trainer she is today. Joselyn pursued her passion for animals at Karen Pryor Academy, where she graduated with distinction as a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA-CTP).

Afterwards she then continued taking educational courses to further enhance her knowledge and skills, and became Certified through the CCPDT as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA). In her free time, Joselyn loves doing arts and craft projects. She also enjoys hiking with her dogs and relaxing with a good book.

Why should you trust me with your dog?

I am Certified in Canine and Feline CPR and First Aid so Safety and the care for your dog is of my upmost importance. During training sessions and hike outings I not only strive to make sure your dog’s physical needs are met, but also that they are getting plenty of enrichment in their environment, which in turn will help their overall health and wellness when they come home.

I have a strong knowledge in canine body language, being able to advocate for your dog’s needs when they may be feeling anxiety, fear, and stress is so important to note and I will make any necessary changes to help your dog feel comfortable.

What do you enjoy about working at Active Dog?

I love seeing dogs thrive in their natural environment, being able to see the joy that dogs experience through training and hikes is such a magnificent moment to be apart of. When I do training sessions, I love implementing my skills, teaching pet parents the importance of body language and communication, which implement a stronger relationship and get desirable behaviors as a result.

Helping dogs build up confidence and joy in their world where the human and dog can live their best lives possible harmoniously that’s when I know I’ve done my job.

What did you do before you worked at Active Dog and why did you decide to work with dogs?

Before I worked at Active Dog, I had a variety of animal-related jobs. I have always had a love for animals growing up and my first experience was working at an equestrian stable. My love for animals grew when my family in Massachusetts adopted our first rescue puppy and that gave me more experience working with a shy, and anxious dog when I was younger.

My first dog I rescued when I was older showed a lot of concerning behavioral needs that I had started to notice during her adolescent age that she needed more help with. I became interested in dog behavior when trying to understand my first dog’s behavioral concerns back then.

My experience working in dog daycare, and rescue shelters helped enhance my skills further.

I pursued my passion for animals and animal behavior by taking different seminars and courses to enhance my knowledge and skill level, I then took a big step at getting accepted into the Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional Program and I Graduated with distinction becoming a Certified Dog Trainer. Afterwards I completed my Trick Dog, and Fear Free Certification. I also took a 12 week course gaining more knowledge on Service Dogs. I then became Certified through the CCPDT and I’m now a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA).
