Melissa has always had a strong love for dogs. She grew up in Westchester and graduated with a degree in teaching from Florida State University. When living in Westchester, she volunteered at a local Animal shelter.
After working with Sephora for almost a decade, she decided to pursue her dream of working with dogs. In Melissa’s downtime, she loves to play beach volleyball and ski. She now lives in Fairfield with her fiancé Cameron and dog Oscar. They plan to adopt a sibling for Oscar soon!
A dog is my favorite animal. I’ve volunteered at animal shelters where I’ve learned the unconditional love that dogs have to offer. My husband Cameron and I have two adorable mutts, Oscar and Misty May. They are the highlight of our days. I’ve always had an affinity for dogs. Any dog that I hike or welcome into my home, I care for like my own.
What do you enjoy about working at Active Dog?
My favorite part about working for Active dog is being out there on the trials seeing the pups have the time of their lives. I remember my first day training I took so many pictures and videos because they were just so happy, and that made me happy.
There is also something to be said about movement and health, for both humans and dogs. I have always had a love for the outdoors skiing, hiking, and playing beach volleyball. The fact that I get to work outside and get fresh air every day is truly an amazing thing.
What did you do before you worked at Active Dog and why did you decide to work with dogs?
I graduated from Florida State with a degree in Elementary Education and taught kindergarten for a year. I then worked for Sephora for 9 years as part of their education program team and then managed their operations department. I have always wanted to work with dogs.
Before I started, it sounded like a dream job, and most days are. I enjoyed my time at Sephora, but working with dogs and being outside is something that is more fulfilling for me. I wouldn’t change it for anything
