Dog Trainer, Manager, Expert Dog Hiker

Personal Background

Sarah was born and raised in Westchester, NY. She‘s always had a love for animals and when she was nine years old her family adopted their first puppy, Diesel.

Growing up together, Sarah became interested in dog behavior by observing and trying to understand Diesel’s “problem” behaviors. She pursued her passion for animals at SUNY Oswego, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and completed her thesis which analyzed the stress levels of shelter dogs.

Afterwards, she became a Certified Dog Trainer through CATCH Canine Trainers Academy. In her free time, Sarah volunteers at a local dog rescue and helps with training and attends adoption events. She also enjoys working out and getting coffee with her friends.

Why should you trust me with your dog?

Your dog’s safety and well-being are my top priority. During hikes and our training sessions, not only will I seek to ensure your pup’s physical safety, I am an advocate for their mental health as well. I have a strong understanding of canine body language, and will make any necessary changes if they are exhibiting fear, anxiety, or stress.

What do you enjoy about working at Active Dog?

What I love most about working at Active Dog is seeing dogs truly enjoying life on their hikes. How often do you get to see dogs run free in nature? Doing training, I’m happy to be a part of improving dogs quality of life by solving behavioral challenges, implementing socialization strategies, and improving manners. I love being able to help dogs and their humans live the best lives possible with one another.

What did you do before you worked at Active Dog and why did you decide to work with dogs?

Before Active Dog, I worked at a variety of other dog-related jobs. I have experience working with rescue dogs, dog walking, dog day-cares, and playgroups. I have always had a love for animals, and this love only grew when my family adopted my first puppy, Diesel. I became interested in dog behavior by trying to understand Diesel’s “problem” behaviors.

I pursued my passion for animals at SUNY Oswego, where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and completed my thesis, which analyzed the stress levels of shelter dogs. Afterwards, I became a Certified Dog Trainer through CATCH Canine Trainers Academy, completed my Fear Free Certification, and am a CCPDT-KA applicant (still awaiting results on my exam!)
