Sheila grew up in St Louis and has always loved the outdoors. Climbing trees was her specialty. She came to the easy coast to attend NYU. Walking around the city was a passion. After owning her business for many years importing Italian wines, a calmer life seemed in order.
She has two daughters and they were the inspiration to get her first dog, Stella. Just one dog wasn’t enough, so we got Allie Luna. Being introduced to Active Dog and having her pups go on hikes was the pathway to being a dog walker and she loves all her walks.
Important Questions for Sheila
Why should you trust me with your dog?
I am a very responsible person that LOVES dogs. I have kids of my own so I really understand the importance of safety regarding your dog. I keep the dogs safe from cars at all times and I make sure the leash is very secure in my hand. Also, I speak in low comforting tones during the walk so they can feel safe and secure.
What do you enjoy about working at Active Dog?
I first was introduced to Active Dog from someone I met in a shop, when she noticed my dog. She was so friendly and I eventually got in touch and met Eric to have my dog go on hikes. It was then that I met Alicia and she took such good care of my dog that a little seed was planted that one day wouldn’t it be nice to become a dog walker! Well that day came and AD was looking for walkers and Alicia mentioned it to me and I came on board. I walk part time and enjoy every minute of it.
What did you do before you worked at Active Dog and why did you decide to work with dogs?
In my past life, I owned an Italian wine importing company. I was mainly managing sales. I decided to “retire” from that world and start a new venture. And decided, having gone through the training process with my dogs, it was so informative to me about so many other things in life.
The biggest thing was how to communicate with them. I trained my first dog to be a Therapy Dog and it was so rewarding to see her work with people to make them happy. I was hooked at that point, and recently got another dog and I am in the process of training her.

⭐️Dog(s) of the Week⭐️ MABEL & PEARL
Mabel started hiking with AD about 2 years ago and her little sister Pearl joined a year later. They make the sweetest golden duo, and though they love their pack mates, they spend most of their hikes wrestling with each other! Mabel was a little apprehensive when her energetic little sister first came home, but it didn’t take long before the two became the best of friends! Mabel and Pearl are inseparable! They do have their differences though. Pearl is always first out the door when the AD van pulls up, whereas Mabel takes a moment to wake up from her nap before making her way to the door. Pearl likes to spend her van ride playing while Mabel prefers to relax right behind the driver seat. This is where the differences end though! These girls hike alike! While out on the trails Mabel and Pearl love to cover lots of ground! They don’t stop moving and only slow down to partake in a game of Tug of War, usually with each other, or play in a mud puddle. Though they love their blonde fur, they enjoy seeing what it’s like to be brunettes for the day. Mabel and Pearl are as fun as they are loving and we are so happy they are a part of our AD family! Congratulations Mabel and Pearl!!! 💛💛 ... See MoreSee Less
