Dog Hiker
Your dog can be trusted with me because of my practical vet tech skills, my love and compassion for all dogs of all shapes and sizes, and my borderline obsession with canine behavior. My absolute favorite college class was an elective: “Canine Behavior: Understanding and Speaking Dog.” I’m working on becoming fully bilingual.
Active Dog perfectly combines my love for dogs and dog behavior, being immersed in nature, and (safe) adventurous fun. While living in VT, my dog Boomer went on pack walks for years. He loved it so much that when we were at home, he would frequently lead me to his orange reflective vest that he only wore during his pack walks. He’d then boop the orange vest with his nose and look up at me while wagging his tail – his way of politely requesting a pack walk, please! Boomer lit up every time he heard his pack walker arrive for pickup. I want to be a part of that joy!
Favorite type of dog?
My favorite type of dog is a dog with a happy wagging tail and a big smile. I was first going to say “a dog with four legs” – but that isn’t even true because I’ve been smitten by many tripods in my life!
Favorite season to hike in?
Fall, for sure! Perfect temperature, lots of leaves for dogs to sniff and play in…
Do you have any pets of your own? If so, what kind?
Boomer is the white dog with black eyes in my picture. He is undoubtedly my “soul dog.” I foster-failed him back in college, conveniently while I was taking elective courses in canine behavior. I also have just a few ball pythons.
What’s your favorite way to spend a day/weekend off?
Exploring and hiking nature trails with Boomer! I also enjoy volunteering at a dog rescue in Westchester, NY, where I have the privilege of taking dogs out for excursions and work on some basic training. Random hobbies include motorcycle riding and playing tennis.
Other:
I love teaching Boomer new tricks. He may be 9 years old now, but I can confirm that old dogs can, indeed, still learn new tricks! Just a few tricks include: jumping through a hoop, sitting pretty, “Namaste” yoga pose, bringing me a tissue when I fake sneeze, and bringing me a beverage from the fridge.
Here’s a look at what’s happening on our nature hikes. We post photos and videos for every hike.
