Eric grew up in Maine, spending much of his childhood exploring the great outdoors and enjoying the company of his family dogs. Eric founded Active Dog in 2011 with his dependable, right hand “man” (or shall we say, dog) Tobias.
Weighing in at a whopping 140 pounds, Tobias, a Greater Swiss Mountain dog, was a gentle giant and loyal hiking companion. Tobias crossed the rainbow bridge on Easter morning of 2018 at 10 and a half years old and will always be remembered as the reason for Active Dog’s inception.
Eric currently lives in Weston, Connecticut with his wife Tara, sons Casen and Brayden, Golden Retriever, Cooper and English Cream Retriever, Cammy. He has a Master’s degree in Financial Risk Management from the University of Connecticut and enjoys playing golf, skiing and performing with his modern-country band, Hazzard County.
Important Questions for Eric
Why should you trust me with your dog?
I have owned dogs for as long as I can remember and hope to for the rest of my life! Active Dog was founded in 2011 with my Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Tobias. I have personally hiked with around 20,000 dogs, so your dog is in well-experienced hands! Dogs have always been and always will be a large part of my personal and professional life. I now have two retrievers, Cooper and Cammy.
What do you enjoy about working at Active Dog?
I started this company 10 years ago as a one-man show with one van and one dog. Over time, I have been fortunate enough to watch this company grow and flourish with loyal clients and hard-working employees. I truly enjoy watching Active Dog grow, develop, expand and meet clients’ needs.
What did you do before you worked at Active Dog and why did you decide to work with dogs?
I was an options trader in Chicago (back when we used to trade on the floors!) and later worked at a fund in Stamford, CT. The financial system was reorganized after the financial crash in 2008, the financial system was rearranged and there was a shift in moving towards a more automated trading system. I found myself out of work and decided to go back to graduate school at night to get a financial risk management degree. Given my classes were at night, I often hiked with my Swissy, Tobias, during the day. I would cross paths with other people hiking with groups of dogs and thought, “I could do this!” The rest is history 😊

⭐️Dog of the Week⭐️ WOODY
Woody has been hiking with AD over a year and half now The moment he sees the AD van out the window, a big smile spreads across his face. Out on the trails, you can find Woody partaking in an epic game of Chase, running laps around the pack, or hanging back and charming his way into an extra treat or two. In between bursts, he comes bouncing up to check in with his hikers, always wearing his signature smile that is equal parts adorable and mischievous-but most of all contagious. Woody is as sweet as they come, always leaning in for a quick ear scratch and ending every hike with a big hug at drop-off. We love having Woody in our AD family and look forward to many more years of fun on the trails. Congratulations Woody!!! 🤠 ... See MoreSee Less

We had a new member join our Active Dog Family today! Everyone please join me in Welcoming 💥Roscoe💥 to the pack! 🥳
Roscoe is a 3 year old Mixed Breed Rescue who is extremely smart and will do absolutely anything for a treat! 🦴 His favorite treats are cheese and carrots but he hates peanut butter! One of the cutest things he does is smile with his teeth when greeting his owners returning from work 😁 Roscoe can tear up a stuffed toy within minutes and he loves to jump on anything high (walls, rocks, pedestals) while he's out exploring the town! He’s happiest in nature smelling all the new scents and he hates technology; he'll bark when you get on your phone or are on the computer! Roscoe’s DNA test said he is mostly Chihuahua (34%)! 🧸😊 ⛰🐾
Roscoe fit right in to the AD life today and I am so excited to see his off leash experience and overall confidence grow out on the trails some more! Great job today buddy! ⭐️ ... See MoreSee Less
